JAKARTA, INDONESIA —
February 26, 2016
Students from Binus International University in Indonesia traveled to Singapore to visit NetApp, Inc’s (NASDAQ: NTAP) Asia Pacific headquarters to experience first-hand the implementation of information technology (IT) in a real life corporate setting. Under NetApp’s Academic Alliances program, this five-day student immersion program from February 22 to 26 was sponsored by NetApp as part of its partnership with Binus International University to nurture Indonesia’s next generation of IT professionals and decision makers.
Ana Sopia, Country Manager of NetApp Indonesia, stated, “We collaborated with Binus International University to support the immersion program. We believe that the program can give an opportunity for the students to gain valuable insights from IT professionals, to directly experience the implementation from the theories they have previously studied, as well as to give a chance to expose themselves to the upcoming technology trends.”
During the five-day immersion program in Singapore, 17 students from Binus International University visited NetApp’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore to experience the working environment of a global IT company, obtain deeper understanding of the integration technologies behind NetApp’s partnerships with companies such as Google, Global Knowledge and Fast Lane Consulting. Furthermore, they were provided with the opportunity to study technology applications that they can implement in the future.
Commenting on the students’ learning experience, Samuel Mahatmaputra, Head of Business Information System Program, Binus International University, said, “We are very pleased to partner NetApp for our students’ immersion program. Our students have benefitted deeply from this trip to NetApp Singapore, gaining deeper insights into real life implementation of information technology in multinational corporations, especially in the field of data storage management. They are showing greater levels of enthusiasm and conviction in honing their skills and knowledge as they continue to grow and develop into IT professionals of the future.”
In September last year, NetApp initiated this program with Binus International University as its first partner in Indonesia and in ASEAN. Leveraging NetApp’s educational resources through the Academic Alliances partnership, Binus International University included NetApp’s storage and data management teaching materials, and incorporated them into its Business Information Systems curriculum. This subject on Business Computing Infrastructures and Communication is currently compulsory for the second and third year students.
NetApp’s Academic Alliance program helps IT students learn the technologies, terminologies, and skills needed to manage massive amounts of data—whether on premises or in the cloud. It provides educational institutions with a portfolio of storage and data management teaching resources including simple, short web-based courses; hands-on exercises with software simulators; and a 30-hour track of study that leads to a NetApp technical certification.
